At TMA PLC, our commitment to social responsibility goes far beyond producing and exporting premium Ethiopian coffee. We believe in making a positive impact on the communities we work with, helping to build a brighter future for the people of Ethiopia. One of our most significant social responsibility initiatives has been the establishment of New Hope Academy, a school in Guji, Shakiso, that is transforming the lives of hundreds of children and their families.
In 2018, TMA PLC founded New Hope Academy in Guji, Shakiso, as part of our mission to give back to the community. The school currently serves over 600 students, providing them with access to quality education and the opportunity to break the cycle of poverty through learning.
At New Hope Academy, education is not just about academics; it’s about fostering a supportive environment where children can thrive. The school is staffed by over 70 employees, with 50 teachers who are dedicated to nurturing and educating the next generation. We believe that by investing in education, we are not only empowering individual students but also contributing to the long-term development of the entire community.
TMA PLC recognizes that access to education is a challenge for many families in rural areas like Guji. To address this, we established a scholarship program for students with special circumstances. Currently, 100 students at New Hope Academy are receiving scholarships, which include not only free tuition but also school uniforms and study materials to ensure they have everything they need to succeed. These scholarships are awarded to children from underprivileged backgrounds, including those facing financial difficulties, disabilities, or other special cases that hinder their access to education.
By providing these scholarships, TMA PLC is working to ensure that no child is left behind, regardless of their economic situation. We believe that every child deserves the chance to receive a quality education, and through this initiative, we are helping to build a more inclusive and equitable future.
New Hope Academy is not just a school; it’s also a major source of employment and empowerment in the Guji region. With over 70 employees, the school provides stable jobs for teachers, administrators, and support staff, many of whom come from the local community. The majority of the staff are teachers, ensuring that students receive the attention and support they need to thrive academically and personally.
